CLASSES

Learn the National Professional Blacksmith level 1 certification curriculum. This includes all the fundamental tapers, shaping and moving hot steel, beginner forge welding, and tenon joinery, and making your first hand-held tools. This class is ideal for people who want the skills required to work independently in their own professional or hobby shop.
Students who's work is within guideline parameters can earn their professional blacksmith level 1 certification.
Cotton clothes and close-toed shoes are required.

$350/Person (4 people) - 8 hours
Compile and forge your own Damascus billet in a ladder pattern. This class will teach you to properly prepare, arrange, forge weld, and finish your Damascus billet so that you can finish it as the item of your choice. Each participant will leave with their own billet of beautiful ladder pattern Damascus and the skills to make Damascus on their own successfully. There are no prerequisites for this class. Beginners are welcome.

Learn the fundamental skills of blacksmithing and then use those skills to make a knife. Learn proper techniques for forging your blade, heat treating, and grinding your knife to finish.

Learn the basic tools and techniques of a blacksmith and make a variety of beginner projects to take home. This class focuses on learning skills that are the basis of most blacksmith work in our spacious Tempe location.
The curriculum for this class includes skills from the professional certification course and students will be able to receive credit towards professional certification.

In this rare demonstration, our guest instructor Frank Christensen will show how he uses raw iron ore from the desert, to make high carbon steel for knives and swords.
Come learn how Frank uses ancient Japanese traditions, updated for modern tools and materials.

Private event for 2 people. With the personal guidance of a professional blacksmith, learn the basics of forging tapers and then each makes a heart that can be linked together. Other projects can be substituted for Date Night if discussed in advance with the blacksmithing instructor. Available weekends and weekday evenings at your convenience.

In this 1 day class, you'll learn to grind a 3-inch blade and then assemble and tune a slip joint mechanism and handle! You'll go home with your own folding pocket knife at the end of the class.

In this class you’ll learn to sharpen your own knives at home from leading expert Corey Dunlap. You’ll also receive a kitchen knife to learn on and take home, with a sharpening stone and stone holder.
Corey Dunlap, has sharpened well over 100,000 knives in his career, and has deep experience teaching people the craft of knife sharpening.

This intermediate-level class is part of a series to building your blacksmithing tools!
Make a pair of blacksmithing tongs! Students will learn the mechanism of all tongs, with jaws that will fit flat stock, round/square stock, or scrolling tongs!
Prerequisites: Introduction to Blacksmithing or Knife Fundamentals.

In this exciting class, you'll learn to forge a tomahawk out of a railroad spike complete with a wooden handle! Some of the blacksmithing skills explored in this class include: upsetting, spreading, punching, and drifting material.
During the class, our professional instructors will demonstrate each step in the project, and then circulate among the students to help as needed.

$425/Person (4 people) - Two 8 hour Sessions
Learn the foundation of almost all advanced Damascus patterning, crushed W-shapes. This class will assemble their billets and cut and stack at least 3 times. Time permitting, we will cut and stack a fourth time and turn the W billets into “explosion” pattern Damascus.
Must have either taken the introduction to Damascus steel or have Damascus project they have made on their own to show.
